Dr. John Hess is a board-certified Family Medicine physician offering comprehensive primary care for patients in Reno, NV and the surrounding community. With over 25 years of experience, he provides trusted, relationship-based care for individuals and families—from children to seniors. His services span preventive medicine, chronic condition management, women’s health, and treatment for acute illnesses, all delivered with a focus on accessibility and compassion.
Philosophy of Care
A Nevada native, Dr. Hess is dedicated to serving his community with high-quality, personalized care. He values the doctor-patient partnership and takes time to listen, educate, and guide patients on their health journey. Recognized as the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians’ Physician of the Year in 2008 and voted Best in Reno Family Doctor by the Reno Gazette-Journal in 2021, Dr. Hess brings both expertise and empathy to every patient interaction—providing modern medical care with a hometown commitment.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Hess is a lifelong Northern Nevada resident who enjoys traveling, spending time with my family, and attending sporting events.

Dr. Hess is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality primary care for patients of all ages in Reno and the surrounding communities. From preventive checkups and same-day sick visits to long-term management of chronic conditions, he supports each patient’s health with attentive, personalized care.
Dr. Hess sees patients in clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 AM to 4:20 PM, and on Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Please note that appointments are typically booking out 3–4 weeks in advance. He also job-shares with his wife, Dr. Katie Dolan, ensuring patients have consistent access to high-quality, family-centered care.
